Staff

Diana Harrell
dh32@txstate.edu
Director

Watch out, or you’ll catch a raging case of enthusiasm from Diana “can do” Harrell. With 25 years of experience in marketing, communication and graphic design, seven of those at Texas State, she’s the leader of the University Marketing pack. Diana is passionate about promoting the university and building a positive and recognizable brand that will enhance the image of Texas State. (She really likes soccer, too.)

Loretta Alcala

Loretta Reyes Alcala
lra@txstate.edu
Administrative Assistant

Loretta’s positive attitude keeps everything running smoothly in University Marketing. This San Marcos native has 15 years of experience as an administrative assistant and office manager – two off them with Texas State – and persistence is her trademark: If she doesn’t know the answer to a question she makes it her job to find the answer. She’s always ready to help out, and always ready with a smile.

Becky Lockhart
rl09@txstate.edu
Program Specialist

Becky is the go-to person of University Marketing. Drawing on her 11 years at Texas State, chances are good that if you have a question, she can answer it. Her knowledge of the university, ever-present calm and ability to make things happen by plying people with chocolate and Lockhart barbecue made her the perfect choice to be the department’s program specialist — the person you should contact first when you need University Marketing to assist with your project.

Mary-Love Bigony
mb75@txstate.edu
Lead Writer/Editor

Mary-Love always has a plan B. That’s something she’s learned from nearly 30 years as a writer and editor at Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine and seven years as a lecturer in the UT School of Journalism, where she also earned her degree. At Texas State, Mary-Love continues her lifelong love affair with words, taking care to find just the right word to do the job.

Yvonne Taylor

M. Yvonne Taylor
mt38@txstate.edu
Writer/Editor

Having worked in public affairs at Rice University, student activities at Reed College in Portland, Ore., and as an English instructor, Yvonne plans to put to good use her knowledge of higher ed, students and the power of the written word by telling everyone about the Rising Star of Texas. Yvonne is thrilled to be pursuing her passion for communication and relationship building at an institution known for its entrepreneurial spirit and full of diverse and exciting stories. (She’s also quite happy that she looks great in maroon and gold!)

David King

David King
dk18@txstate.edu
Writer/Editor

After 29 years in crowded and noisy press boxes writing about everything from high school football to minor league baseball to the Olympics, David is happy to have some elbow room and a slightly quieter place to work. He’s looking forward to spreading the word about Texas State using skills developed while researching and writing profiles, features and multi-part series at the San Antonio Express-News, and he already has pledged not to bore anyone with tales of his adventures in winemaking chemistry.

Sean Barnes
sb49@txstate.edu
Graphic Designer

Since 1989, Sean has designed graphic solutions for advertising, publications, litigation graphics, multimedia, Web sites, interactive presentations, displays and more. In 2005, Sean began classes at Texas State to finish his long dormant degree in communication design; he liked the university so much he joined the University Marketing staff in 2006. Despite having designed thousands of pieces in his career, Sean claims to have never used Helvetica.
Hoyt Haffelder
ch58@txstate.edu
Graphic Designer

Hoyt, or H2 as he’s often called due to the alliteration of his first and last names, will soon be a B2 — a double Bobcat. Having earned his BFA in communication design from Texas State in 2006, he barely took a breather before he began his MFA in design at Texas State in 2007. Hoyt joined our staff in 2008, bringing with him his love for Texas State and the professional experience he gained working for H-E-B designing logos, signage, merchandise, posters and fonts.
Melinda Helt
mh78@txstate.edu
Graphic Designer

Melinda came to Texas State with four years of professional experience as a graphic designer for institutions of higher education. In fact, the Bobcat is her seventh school mascot! She was a Redhawk back home in Pittsburgh while pursuing her BS in graphic and communication design. Now she uses that degree and the school spirit she’s accumulated to produce creative print and Web designs for Texas State — in maroon and gold, of course.

César Limón
cl16@txstate.edu
Graphic Designer

César has a thirst for knowledge and an appetite for design. He’s quenching the first by pursuing his MFA in communication design from Texas State (he holds a BFA in the field). He’s satisfying the latter by continuing his 24-year career in graphic design. He creates posters, brochures and other publications as well as illustrations for Texas State, where he has worked for nine years. César’s hunger for creative outlets doesn’t end at 5 o’clock. When he’s not designing, he’s refinishing furniture, “throwing pots,” and of course, cooking.

Chandler Prude
cp35@txstate.edu
Photographer

Chandler joined University Marketing in 2008, bringing with him 10 years of photography experience. At Texas State, Chandler captures images that support the university’s marketing and advertising efforts, including portraits and candid photographs of special events and everyday life on campus. You will also find him on the sidelines of Texas State athletic events capturing the Bobcats in action. When you see him on campus, camera and gear in tow, be sure to tell this West Texas native “hello,” and don’t forget to say, “cheese.”
Paul Collins

Paul Collins
webdes@txstate.edu
Web Designer

Paul may be from Canada originally, eh, but he's homegrown Texas State talent if we've ever seen it. This Web designer joined the University Marketing staff in November 2008, but his work with the Texas State Web site goes back to his days as a student here. While earning his BFA in communication design, Paul helped develop the university's first Web site. Now this proud alum who believes "The Web is the future of everything!" is ready to take our site to the next level.
