Watch out, or you’ll catch a raging case of enthusiasm from Diana “can do” Harrell. With 28 years of experience in marketing, communication and graphic design — 10 of those at Texas State — she’s the leader of the University Marketing pack. Diana is passionate about promoting the university and building a positive and recognizable brand that will enhance the image of Texas State. (She really likes soccer, too.)
Kelly grew up in the Texas Hill Country and came to Texas State by way of Long Beach, Calif., where she worked as a graphic designer and creative director. She has worked with clients in higher education, travel, nonprofits, healthcare and logistics and enjoys managing a team of talented people. When she’s not guiding the University Marketing creative staff, Kelly enjoys modern art, architecture, watercolor painting and live music.
Loretta Reyes Alcala
Loretta’s positive attitude keeps everything running smoothly in University Marketing. This San Marcos native has more than 20 years of experience as an administrative assistant and office manager — five of them with Texas State — and persistence is her trademark: If she doesn’t know the answer to a question, she makes it her job to find the answer. She’s always ready to help out, and always ready with a smile.
Becky is the go-to person of University Marketing. Drawing on her 15 years at Texas State, chances are good that if you have a question, she can answer it. Her knowledge of the university, ever-present calm and ability to make things happen by plying people with chocolate and Lockhart barbecue made her the perfect choice to be the department’s program specialist — the person you should contact first when you need University Marketing to assist with your project.
Mary-Love always has a plan B. That’s something she’s learned from nearly 30 years as a writer and editor at Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine and seven years as a lecturer in the UT School of Journalism, where she also earned her degree. At Texas State, Mary-Love continues her lifelong love affair with words, taking care to find just the right word to do the job.
At age 9, Merry declared her intention to become a Madison Avenue copywriter. She proved it by filling a scrapbook with clippings of her favorite ads. Her early passion for headlines, jingles and stories inspired her to create her living with words — in the Big Apple and beyond. Merry has worked as a writer, creative director and marketing director with leading ad agencies and corporations in the U.S., Europe and Asia. When not crafting a sentence, she can be found on the tennis court as a player and a USTA official.
Audrey's writing expertise ranges from magazine editing to journalism to corporate communications. She's also a published mystery author and a graduate of the Austin Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy. Born in Canada, Audrey is a self-appointed ambassador for her native land, always willing to educate non-Canadians on the finer aspects of Nanaimo bars, long underwear and hockey. She is the proud mother of a former Bobcat.
Harrison made his way to Texas State from the city of Canyon in the windy panhandle of Texas. He is a proud Texas State alumnus, graduating with a B.F.A. in Communication Design. After three years of experience at Cinemark Theatres and another three years at Alkek Library, Harrison made his way to University Marketing. A few fun facts about Harrison: He has a twin sister and a dog named Eugene, and once drove from Texas to New York to watch the British indie band Bloc Party perform in a three-night concert.
Justin was drawn to graphic design through his interest in art, photography and film. “I’m a problem solver by nature and I’m also very visual, so it was a natural progression for me,” he says. A Central Texas native, he earned his B.F.A. in new media at UTSA and has worked as a designer and marketing manager for the past seven years. Our favorite trivia about Justin: he has a twin brother in Austin and a friendly chocolate lab named Karli.
You can expect big things from Michael, because he specializes in epic-scale adventures. He cycled solo from Austin to his hometown, Pittsburgh (2,300 miles in 34 days), spent six weeks in India, two years in Jerusalem – imagination and daring fuel his creativity. He has lent his considerable skill in web design to the bicycle industry and to other higher education institutions, which shall remain unnamed. Michael enjoys being outdoors with his trusty dog, Chloe, who shares his passion for movies, ‘80s music and unicorns.
César has a thirst for knowledge and an appetite for design. He’s quenching the first by pursuing his M.F.A. in communication design from Texas State (he holds a B.F.A. in the field). He’s satisfying the latter by continuing his 26-year career in graphic design. He creates posters, brochures and other publications as well as illustrations for Texas State, where he has worked for nine years. César’s hunger for creative outlets doesn’t end at 5 o’clock. When he’s not designing, he’s refinishing furniture, “throwing pots,” and of course, cooking.
Roxanne brings homegrown talent to our team. After owning the successful Austin café Star Seeds, she found a new creative path, earning her B.F.A. in communication design from Texas State in 2007. Her environmental designs from her tenure at the Austin firm fd2s stand out across the country, from the Livestrong headquarters in Austin to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Besides applying her skills to Photoshop canvases, she paints and loves to travel — “I’m addicted to Costa Rica,” she says.
Chandler joined University Marketing in 2008, bringing with him 10 years of photography experience. At Texas State, Chandler captures images that support the university’s marketing and advertising efforts, including portraits and candid photographs of special events and everyday life on campus. You will also find him on the sidelines of Texas State athletic events capturing the Bobcats in action. When you see him on campus, camera and gear in tow, be sure to tell this West Texas native “hello,” and don’t forget to say “cheese.”
Joshua David Matthews
Digital Video Specialist
Joshua was accepted into the Peace Corps, but decided to follow his passion for documentary films. With an M.F.A. in film and television from Savannah College of Art and Design and six years as a freelancer in video and editing, Joshua learned the skills he needed to start his own documentary film company with a fellow SCAD graduate. He recently completed his first feature film. When he isn’t at the movies, collecting books or playing with his dog Zoe, he’s working up his courage to someday swim with sharks.

If you should see Isaac on campus, ask to see the soles of his shoes – he came all the way from Boston just to join our team! This rambling man, originally from North Carolina, has also lived in California and Illinois. Isaac finds inspiration in the music of Brahms and Beethoven, the art of Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent, and the films of Terrence Malick and Andrei Tarkovsky. In his spare time, Isaac enjoys coastal beaches and spending time with his family, which includes his gray cat, Ash.
